[Registered tangible cultural property] Namiki House

Namiki House, located in Zōshigaya, Toshima City, is a high-quality rental apartment with a wide central corridor and rooms with alcoves, and a dignified shaped handrail, which was built in 1953, and is a popular property* with all 11 rooms occupied.
It is also known as an apartment where the manga artist (cartoonist) Mr. Osamu Tezuka, known as the author of “Astro Boy” lived, and was renovated in 2009 with consideration towards the maintenance of the building and renovation of facilities, and was registered as a national tangible cultural property on May 10, 2018.
On the side facing the approach to Kishimojin Shrine, there is also the Namiki House Annex, a five tenement house built in 1932, which was renovated at the same time and registered as a tangible cultural property.
Even now, Zōshigaya is used as an information location and a cafe, and retains the influential presence of those past times.
